EBT cards: information and getting involved ** INVOLVEMENT WANTED **

Are you on Government benefits right now? Or, are you involved with a Farmer’s Market?
Perhaps you just want to get involved with the program?

—————————————

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service established the SNAP (EBT) benefits program in 2004 in order to increase food affordability around the United States.

Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) applies to those accepting Government-funded benefits in order to relieve financial situations.  The program is applied in all 50 U.S. states and can be used to purchase food products.  Eligibility for the program depends on certain particulars, such as income, cars owned and bank account information.  To learn if you are eligible, just click here!

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has made a conscientious effort to encourage Farmer’s Markets to accept EBT cards, making the healthy options the affordable options.  If you are involved with a Farmer’s market, you could be eligible to start accepting EBT card payments for your produce.  It’s in your hands to take a pro-active step forward.  Check the eligibility of your Farmer’s Market and learn the process of applying for SNAP (EBT) benefits by clicking here.

Do you want to get involved?

So maybe you don’t have Government benefits, or you don’t work with a Farmer’s market…. you can still get involved!

Believe it or not, your actions can have an influence on increasing food affordability.  Do you have a local farmer’s market in your community?  Go talk to them!  Send an e-mail, visit them on a market day or give them a call to learn whether they currently accept EBT card payments for their produce.

If the market doesn’t happen to currently accept EBT-cards, you can inform them why they should, or direct them to this page for more information.  Or, you can simply send us their information and we would love to get in contact with them.  If they do accept SNAP benefits, we would love to add them to our list of EBT-accepting markets.

We will add the name and weekly operating schedule to this website, and if they’re EBT-accepting, we will make sure that is well known with a:  button right next to their name.
